DHI Technique

What is the DHI technique and how is it done?

Different hair transplantation surgeries have been developed for androgenetic alopecia, that is, male pattern baldness. Follicular unit transplantation (FUT) and follicular unit extraction (FUE) are the two most common techniques.

During FUT, a surgeon cuts a strip of hair from the back of your scalp and removes individual hair follicles. During FUE, a surgeon removes follicles one by one directly from back side of your scalp. In both surgeries, follicles are implanted, that is, transplanted, into the recepient (bold side ) areas of your scalp.

Direct hair transplantation (DHI) is a modification of the FUE technique created by the DHI Global Medical Group company.

In FUE, the surgeon manually opens channels in your scalp before inserting hair follicles. During DHI, they use a special pen-shaped tool that can do both opening channels and inserting grefts at the same time. The DHI pen has a sharp, grooved scalpel at the tip. While the DHI making holes on your scalp, the hair grafts previously placed inside DHI pen are placed into this hole.
